In April 2022, Lancashire Fire and Rescue changed how they respond to automatic fire alarms (AFA) in non-sleeping risk premises between the hours of 8:00am to 7:00pm, seven days a week.
LFRS no longer respond to AFAs unless the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) confirm that the premises provides sleeping accommodation or are a premises type that has been granted a fire alarm exemption. LFRS will always continue to respond to confirmed fires at any premises.
Having reviewed the intelligence after 12 months, LFRS are now expanding this policy to 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from 2 May 2023.
Premises throughout Lancashire are being informed of this change via social media, direct mail or trade bodies such as the chamber of commerce.
ARCs that monitor fire alarms in Lancashire have also been informed of this change.
The full policy and information for premises affected by this change, are available on Automatic Fire Alarms | Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (lancsfirerescue.org.uk) and any enquiries should be directed to the afaenquiries@lancsfirerescue.org.uk and the website.
