Broughton High is the latest school to join the Young Chamber scheme via a unique sponsorship opportunity offered to Lancashire businesses earlier this year.
Following interest from businesses wishing to work closer with their local schools and communities NWLCC decided to launch a ‘sponsor a school’ campaign. This would allow businesses an opportunity to work with and support a local school of their choice.
One of the first businesses to respond to the call was GB Energy supplies based in Broughton, Preston. Luke Watson, Manging Director of GB Energy said:-
“As a local business, it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to support one of our community’s schools in this way. The Chamber offers young people genuinely unique support to help them in their future professional lives.”
The programme, launched in 2016 by the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, is one which schools and colleges within the Chamber’s area can join to boost prospects for pupils and students.
Young Chamber is a national scheme run locally by chambers of commerce with accreditation from the British Chambers of Commerce.
Its aim is to provide young people with a real and meaningful understanding of business, jobs, careers and the range of potential opportunities that exist once they leave education.
“I’m delighted to be involved with the Young Chamber programme,” said Chris Morris, Headteacher at Broughton High School.
“I look forward to working with businesses from various industries and I am delighted our pupils will have access to the best possible opportunities enabling them to make well-informed, confident decisions before embarking upon their chosen career path.”
“Through a series of workshops, guest speakers and enterprise initiatives that will be delivered in our school, we hope to inspire our pupils to become our business leaders of tomorrow.”
Mr Morris added, “It is essential that whilst in school we are preparing our pupils for the world of work. The more exposure they receive to the world of business, the broader the range of employability skills they will develop, ensuring they are a diverse and well-rounded prospect for future employers.”
