This week, the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce welcomed senior officials from Heathrow Airport to the county to take part in a round table discussion about the airport’s expansion plans.
The meeting, part of a national programme of round tables taking place all over the UK, provided business leaders and other local stakeholders with an opportunity to outline their key priorities for the region and discuss how expansion of Heathrow could help achieve these goals.
Chamber Policy Manager Alan Welsh commented: “The expansion of Heathrow, together with HS2, will undoubtedly bring benefits to our region in terms of creating jobs, improving domestic connectivity and ensuring Britain is open for trade post-Brexit. Today was a welcome opportunity to learn more about these plans and we fully support Heathrow in their efforts to get them through Parliament later this year.”
The Government selected Heathrow as its preferred choice for airport expansion in the south east in October 2016. This decision came after three-year process of examination by the Airports Commission. The Government is expected to schedule an important vote in Parliament on the Airport’s National Policy Statement later this year, which is the policy framework for Heathrow expansion.
