Members of the team at Preston-based Rotherham Taylor Chartered Accountants have raised a total of £820 for CARE International UK by taking part in its Walk in her Shoes initiative, which aims to improve access to water for women and girls in poor communities overseas.
Rebecca Bradshaw, Lucy Birchall, Nicola Hardy, Chloe Greenbank and Amy Sharples each walked 10,000 steps every day in March, clocking up a total of more than 1.5 million steps between them – the equivalent distance of nearly six marathons each.
The team’s final £820 fundraising total, which far surpasses their initial £500 target, has now been confirmed by CARE International UK. This total is set to be doubled, with every pound raised for the campaign being matched by the UK government.
The Rotherham Taylor team went well beyond what was asked of them too, with the organisers of the initiative asking participants to walk 10,000 steps every day for a week, rather than the whole month.
Rotherham Taylor director, Rebecca Bradshaw said: “These funds are set to make a real difference to women and girls in some of the poorest parts of the world and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to raise so much for a very deserving cause.

The funds raised will be used to help improve access to water for girls and women in poor communities so that they no longer have to walk great distances to collect it and can access education and work instead.
