One of the most inspirational campaigners of modern times has made a keynote speech at Chamber’s Women Mean Business event.

Figen Murray OBE – the force behind “Martyn’s Law” – as well as a counsellor and a life coach, addressed Lancashire business ladies for the first event of the year, in partnership with Code Galaxy.

Murray was joined by Camilla Hadcock, chair of the board of directors of Made in Britan and director of Roach Bridge Tissues, for the inspirational and thought-provoking lunch at Stanley House Hotel and Spa.

Being awarded an OBE in the 2022 New Year’s Honours List is just one of many achievements for Figen, who’s life changed forever in May 2017 when her son, Martyn, was one of 22 people killed in the Manchester terrorist attack. Two years later, following an online petition with more than 23,000 signatures, Martyn’s Law was born.

The legislation – which will receive Royal Ascent this year – calls for venues with a capacity of over 100 to improve security against the threat of terrorism and training for their staff, has received the backing of government ministers since its inception.

Together with Camilla’s talk on how she helps encourage local and British-made goods, this was an afternoon not to forget for businesswomen across Lancashire.

Mary Speakman, managing director of Code Galaxy, said: “The Women Mean Business event was a truly inspiring day, bringing together incredible women from across Lancashire to share their experiences, challenges, and successes. It was fantastic to see so many driven individuals supporting and uplifting each other.

“The keynote speakers were nothing short of phenomenal, delivering powerful messages about resilience, leadership, and breaking barriers in business. Their stories left everyone in the room feeling motivated and ready to take on new challenges.”

The next Women Mean Business event is on Friday, 27th June. For tickets, please e-mail chamberevents@lancschamber.co.uk
