The report, produced by Siemens UK, showcases a £200 billion investment pipeline for the region as part of a coordinated effort to decarbonise industry and make the North West the UK’s first net zero region by 2040. In doing so, it has the potential to save over 38 mega-tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, generate £285 billion GVA and safeguard or create over 660,000 jobs.
The launch is the latest step in the progression of Net Zero North West, which NWBLT helped establish in 2018 to encourage increased collaboration in tackling this challenge. Two objectives were set, firstly to raise the profile of what the North West has to offer, and secondly to work together to increase investment.
In the summer of 2021, this collaboration was put on a more formal footing and Net Zero North West is now focussed upon taking this crucial work forward and developing a comprehensive roadmap for how the region will decarbonise industry and protect jobs.
