On May 22, 2017, the UK experienced one of its most devastating terrorist attacks, resulting in the tragic loss of 22 lives, including Martyn Hett, the son of Figen Murray. Thanks to Figen’s tireless advocacy, the proposed legislation, known as Martyn’s Law, is on track to receive Royal Assent after six years of dedicated lobbying.

In light of the upcoming legislation, businesses such as venues, event spaces, hotels, bars, restaurants, large retail establishments, places of worship, sports stadiums, and others will be required to develop comprehensive plans for evacuation, invacuation, lockdown, and communication with staff, customers, and authorities.

To assist businesses in navigating these new requirements, the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with a leading licensing expert with 40 years of experience and first aid professionals, has launched a specialised training course. This program aims to equip you with the knowledge to fulfil your obligations, ensure compliance, and be well-prepared in advance.

The in-person training session on Martyn’s Law is the only one of its kind in the region and will offer valuable insights into the forthcoming legislation, its implications for your business, and the practical measures you need to implement to safeguard your patrons.

Business owners and managers are encouraged to take proactive steps to comply with the legislation and protect their customers and staff. It’s crucial to understand the potential consequences of non-compliance with Martyn’s Law, as the SIA, the Government’s designated compliance enforcement agency, has the authority to issue civil penalties of up to £10,000 for standard duty premises and as much as £18 million or 5% of worldwide revenue for enhanced duty premises or qualifying events.
